In 2023 I went to Helgoland with my photo buddy (Henk Vanatie) from June 7-10.
Why Helgoland? This small island of 4 km2 and 50 km from Cuxhaven in the North Sea and 1300 inhabitants is known because a colony of “Jan van Gent” resides here. In addition, there are many more birds to spot and also seals.
We were lucky with the weather while we were there. Fantastic sunny weather and beautiful sunsets.
The Jan van Gents are quite brutal and not at all afraid of the people standing there. In certain places these are less than a meter away from you. You can use thick lenses (600 mm), but you can even take fantastic photos with a wide-angle lens (18 mm).
If you want to have a photo on the wall, you can order it from “Werk aan de Muur”.
