Photography is my hobby.
I can often be found in nature where I come across the most beautiful places and enjoying to photographe.
For the most beautiful landscape photos, you have to get up early to capture them at sunrise. However, you can also take beautiful photos at sunset.
During the day you can go out to photograph animals of which the birds are my favorite.
What is also wonderful is to make the most beautiful creations during the blue hour or at night.

The alarm clock is at 05:00. Very early.... but it is cloudy. We were going to shoot the sun-rise just behind our campsite. As we are already awake, we should go any way. The first sunbeams are coming through and it is reflecting against the clouds. The redish reflection lasts only a few minutes which as a spectacular view.

It didn't take long before it flew down to a bush to eat—very patiently and not shy at all. Shortly after, it took off again, so we got quite lucky with the timing.

A moment of intense focus in the African bush! This stunning Little Bee-eater (Merops pusillus) pauses on a thorny branch, having just secured a meal. Assignment in the FotoWerkGroep to use the flash. I created this splash photo. I used many cans of bear as the timing is very tricky. Too early, too late, no splash and finally some good photos. Used one filtser for back light, and a mirror on the opposite. Next used a small torch for additional light Merged 2 photos with the main photo and added the ice cube in it.

An impressive rain shower is coming over....
In Loro Cuiffenna (Italie), we saw this shower building up. A few days before, there was a very local shower with hail stones of 3 cm. A lot of damage to the olive and wine trees. Lasted just for 30 minutes and very local. We were just 30 km to the north and just had a few rain drops. This show is big and youc an see the rain. Now, here in Loro, we just had a few rain drops but very impressive to see.

Breeding grebe
It is early april. Past weeks, we have had a lot of sunshine in the Netherlands. Many birds have started breeding. I even saw the first geese with chicks. This grebe has to wait a bit longer before the eggs will hatch.

Sun eclips
It is saturday 29th of March 2025 and around noon, the moon is shifting in front of the sun creating a sun eclipse. It is cloudy which is in this case a benefit creating nice scenes. The small spot in the upper left of the sun is a sunspot. Sunspots are temporary, dark spots on the sun's surface. They are cooler than the surrounding areas and are caused by strong magnetic activity. and has the size of the earth. Next eclipse will be in august 2026 and 2027.

Star trailing het gezicht van Nijmegen
Last period, it was very cloudy. On a nice evening, we had a clear sky perfectly to shoot the stars for star trailing. This is the face of Nijmegen. Very nice spot, but did have a lot of light pollution. Therefore I had to reduce the ISO and set it to 640 I shot a base photo and 360 photos for the stars. After cleaning up the photos in Lightroom (planes etc), I merged them in Sequator. Next merged the base photo with the star trailing photo in Photoshop giving this result.

It is cold, it is again misty. It is very cold and the little mist drops freeze to the environment. The sun does not have the power to come through and everything is gray. The high Veluwe (Netherlands) is a beautiful area to make nice walks. The trees disappear in the mist.

It is a Christmas market in Heusen. In Heusen, there is a little harbour. Past days, we have had only low clouds and no sun at all. Also quite some rain has fallen and makes this harbour very nice.

Small crested kingfisher
A malachite kingfisher or small crested kingfisher sits in the reeds. We are in a mokoro which is a bit wobbly. King fisher is very small and hidden between the reeds. A challenging job for the auto focus of the camera but after a lock the photo's look marvelous.

We had a fantastic day. The sunset is setting in. It is cloudy and not far from, it is raining. A group of elephants are passing by. Very close to us, an elephant is drinking. Bit further away, a group of elephants are passing by.

It is November. It is autumn and the weather is nice. No rain and sun. The trees in the outside environment are almost bare. In the forest, the trees are slowly starting to color. At the rail track, the colors are already beautiful. Around noon, the sun shines beautifully in it so that the colors light up beautifully.

Bank of porcelain mushrooms
On a beautiful Sunday morning, a walk through the forest. It is October and there are many mushrooms to be found. Especially with the beautiful warm weather we had recently you stumble over the mushrooms. In a deeper gully I came across these porcelain mushrooms on a trunk. I could not pass this one up to capture it. I made a focus stack with a large aperture for a limited depth of field. Very satisfied with the result.

Last weekend of october. It was nearly the end of the morning and the sun was shining. Went for a walk with our dogs. Nearly at the end of the hike, I saw this tiny sticky coral fungus. It is about 2 cm high but easy to make a very nice shot.

It is October and the mushrooms are shooting out of the ground. On a beautiful Sunday, while walking the dogs at Sionshof (Nijmegen) many mushrooms can be found. Right at the beginning I saw these bank stump mushrooms on a trunk. After finding the right angle I made a nice stack.

Zeelandbrug
The Zeeland Bridge is an impressive structure over five kilometres long and connects Schouwen-Duiveland (Zierikzee) and Noord-Beveland (Colijnsplaat). The bridge consists of 54 piers with 52 spans of 95 meters each. On a nice day at the end of September I travelled to this location. In the afternoon, it became very cloudy with sunbeams shining through the clouds, glistening on the bridge.

The water of the Waal is low and after the Waalbrug, you can see the Spiegelwaal which is a second turn of the Waal due to its strong curve against Nijmegen. In the background you see Lent popping up.

Bridges of Nijmegen Netherlands
On a nice evening, late September, we have an after summer. High temperatures and beautifull warm evenings. The water of the Waal is low and I am able to walk far on the river banks. The first bridge is the Waalbrug and is the main brige when coming to Nijmegen. The second bridge is the Spoorburg being used by the trains. The third bridge is a fairly new bridge and is called the the Oversteek. A beautifull bridge and is very popular for photografers.

Tuscane is very beautiful. One of the famous roads is cypresse road. This is a long lane having on its side the cypresses. The grains have been harvested recently , which gives the grain fields a beautiful colour. Due to the sunset, the cypresses have a nice shade.

The last assignment with "de beste foto" are dutch (paint) artists. I have seen many paintings and many of the mills and cows in the field. In the evening, I saw these cows in the field at sunset. With my camera I could not come close enough and did send my drone to it. The cows were relaxed and the sun dropped below the horizon. To create a paint effect, Photoshop was needed and I decided not to perform this. This photo ended in third place and overall, I became the winner.

Zonsopkomst
De wekker staat vroeg om 05:00. Achter onze camp-site willen we de opgaande zon fotograferen. Het is zwaar bewolkt, ... zou het iets worden... Impala's zie je veel in Botswana. Dit is in Moremi Kwai reservaat. De impala's zijn zeer allert voor gevaar, want dit zijn geliefde maaltijden voor de leeuwen, luipaard of hyena. Toen wij voorbij kwamen waren alle ogen op ons gericht wat we gingen doen. Fantastisch tafereel.#0141

In Moremi Kwai (Botswana), lag deze mannetjes leeuw lekker tussen het gras. Door het lange gras is deze soms moeilijk te spotten. Deze leeuw heeft een gevecht gehad met een andere leeuw. Het is namelijk paartijd en de mannen moeten echt hun best doen om een vrouwtje te krijgen. Nadat ze het gevecht gewonnen gaan de man en vrouw zich afzonderen om vervolgens de komende 3 dagen elke 20 minuten te paren.#0140

Tijdens een wandeling zag ik een omgevallen boom met deze paddestoel. Veel ruimte om de paddestoel aan de onderkant te fotograferen. Focus Stack gemaakt en verlicht aan de onderkant. Mooi zijn de texturen van de paddenstoel te zien.

Toen deze opdracht voorbij kwam, had ik al meteen het idee om iets met "het gezicht van Nijmegen" te doen. Ik heb een 12-24 mm lens die erg gevoelig is voor flairs. Normaal probeer je deze niet in de foto te krijgen maar deze keer dus wel. Tevens mijn andere gebruikt maar hier was het effect veel minder. Hoe de flair in de foto kwam, was toch nog lastiger dan ik had verwacht. Hoe krijg je de bundel waar je deze wilt hebben. Uiteindelijk was de zon gedeeltelijk achter het masker en kon deze gericht krijgen tot in het oog waardoor deze een rood oog kreeg met druppels naar beneden.

ik één van de leukste dingen om te doen, maar erg lastig om dynamiek erin te krijgen. Ik ben vele keren erop uit geweest. Bij de ganzen gieren de hormonen door hun lichaam wat ook leuke plaatjes oplevert. Echter wat ook zeker de moeite waard is, is om een vogelhut te huren. Zo ben ik voor deze gelegenheid naar HB8 geweest in Nijverdal. Echt één van de mooiste hutten die ik heb ooit gezien. Ik had mooi weer en de zon liet zich goed zien. Al snel kwamen verschillende vogels langs waaronder een appelvink. Super mooie vogel. Tevens waren de eekhoorns aanwezig. Tegen het middaguur was het baddertijd. De één na de ander was aan het badderen. Goed timen en high speed burst en heel veel foto's. Diafragma had ik niet helemaal open, om een grotere scherptediepte te krijgen. ISO op de automaat en met maxima

Wederom heb ik ervan genoten en weer nieuwe dingen geleerd. De zonsondergang was deze keer een uitdaging i.v.m. het fantastische weer afgelopen periode. Met raadplegen van Photopills aantal spots opge het met het zonnetje en de bewolking is. Afgelopen woensdag was eigenlijk de enige mooie dag en ben uur voor zonsondergang naar de locatie gegaan. Het was windstil, mooi vlak water een mooie wolkenpartij en een vliegtuig die hoog overvloog. Heb gedurende de zonsondergang continue bracketing series gemaakt van 0.3 eV met 5 shots. Hiervan had ik maar 2 foto's nodig om een HDR te maken in lightroom en kreeg dit mooie resultaat.

Een fantastische dag in de Amsterdamse Water Duinen waar we met 3 personen naar toe zijn geweest. 's Ochtends zeer vroeg vertrokken om bij zonsopgang het park in te kunnen lopen. Doel waren de damherten en de vossen te kunnen zien. In de AWD is het niet de vroeg of je damherten ziet maar hoeveel. Niet normaal zoveel damherten er lopen. De vossen hebben we helaas niet kunnen vinden. Wat ook fantastisch was, was dat we op een gegeven moment midden in het geweld van vechtende mannetjes zaten. Wat een belevenis. Maar wat heel bijzonder was, was dit mannetje damhert heerlijk in het gras lag te herkauwen. Ik kon echt heel dichtbij komen en het was een spel hoe dicht dat je erbij kon komen. Zolang hij aan het herkauwen was ging ik voetje bij voetje steeds dichterbij. Zodra hij stopte met herkauwen bleef ik staan. Het duurde niet lang en meneer ging weer verder met herkauwen zodat ik weer voetje bij voetje dichterbij kon komen. Dit spelletje van wederzijds respect hebben we een aantal keren gedaan totdat ik ongeveer 10 meter voor hem stond. Model bleef perfect liggen zodat je goed je positie kon bepalen. Deze foto is ongeveer op ooghoogte genomen van damhert. Diafragma helemaal open, sluitertijd op 1/640 en ISO kwam op 250 uit.

Opdracht Zwanen of eenden in actie. Het liefst wilde ik zwanen in actie. Maar waar vind je deze tegenwoordig. Vele malen erop uit geweest maar geen zwanen. Op een gegeven moment zag ik een koppeltje in Ooij polder. Mooie opnames gemaakt, maar geen actie. Toevallig kwam ik in de Lingewaard. Hier kun je heel veel zwanen vinden. Eerste series opnames gemaakt met landende en stijgende zwanen, maar niet helemaal naar zin. Dus nog een aantal keren geweest en de inzet wordt beloond. Het is een kwestie van tijd en de zwanen stegen op. ISO had ik opgeschroeft naar 800, diafragma open en sluitertijd op 1/1000 sec. Echt indrukwekkend om zoiets te zien. Deze foto is als eerste geëindigdf.

Het is hoog water. De Waal, de Rijn, de Maas staan allen hoog i.v.mn. de vele regen en smeltend sneeuw. Eind 2023 staat het water op hoogste punt en is duidelijk te zien. Verschillende kades zijn al ondergelopen en water staat hoog tot aan de dijk. Ook onder de Oversteek is het vele water ook goed te zien. Deze foto gemaakt tijdens blauwe uur. De lampen van de oveersteek reflecteren mooi in de Waal.

Op het noorderstrand van Dune (Helgoland) was deze scholekster op jacht naar voedsel (wormen). Wonderbaarlijk hoe de vogels de wormen ontdekken, soms de snavel diep de grond in omde worm uit de grond te trekken. Scholekster was totaal niet schuw en liep gewoon langs ons heen. Regelmatig werd de worm gevonden en werd lekker opgegeten. Prachtig is te zien hoe de worm wordt gepositioneerd om vervolgens door te slikken.

Op het nordstrand van Dune (Helgoland) lag deze zeehond lekker te relaxen en genieten van het prachtige weer. Wel een hele zwerm vliegen die rond hem hangen. Voorpoot probeert dee weg te slaan... maar je weet hoe het gaat met vliegen.

Deze man Jan van Gent komt aangevlogen. Even zijn schatje begroten om vervolgens een plekje zien te vinden om te gaan landen. Er is weinig ruimte te vinden bij de broedende kolonie op Helgoland. Leuk hoe de vogels elkaar begroten en de buren angstvallig die aanschouwen om hun nest te beschermen waar ze zitten te broeden.

Op Helgoland is natuurlijk een vuurtoren. Om de lichtstraal te vangen is best lastig, maar uiteindelijk toch gelukt. Het licht komt elke 5 seconden langs en wordt gemaakt door een 2.000W Xenon lamp en heeft een lichtopbrengst van 35 M candela en schijnt 37 km ver. Een auto met xenon verlichting heeft een opbrengst van 3.500 candela en is 1/1000 van de vuurtoren.

Na een prachtige zonsondergang gingen we terug naar het hotel. Langs de westkant van Helgoland heb je gigantische klifs die 30 meter hoog zijn. Het was laag water (eb) waardoor je duidelijk de bodem ziet. Tevens is de enige vuurtoren reeds aan het schijnen. Het was inmiddels het blauwe uur waardoor je een prachtige landschap foto krijgt.

Eén van de mooiste lokaties. Lange Anna (Helgoland) tijdens zonsondergang. Het gouden uur. Van te voren goed de plek uitgezocht met PhotoPills en hopen dat de lucht een beetje meewerkt. We werden getrakteerd met een hele mooie lucht en de zon ging echt mooi onder. De Jan van Genten vliegen nog volop. Rechts op de heuvel staan nog meer fotografen en langs de horizon in de zee zijn de vele windmolens te zien. Wat een mooi moment en met een tevreden gevoel terug naar Hotel (Mocca).

Wat we allang wisten, is dat Toscane een prachtig mooi gebied is in Italië. Ondanks dat we al jaren in de zomer naar dat gebied gaan op vakantie, lukt het ons toch nog elke keer weer een nieuw gedeelte te ontdekken. Aan de SP146 vind je de "Panoramic View : Cappella Vitaleta, Val d'Orcia". Een populaire plek waar heel veel auto's stoppen om deze mooie lokatie vast te leggen. Die dag was het zonnig en de zon scheen mooi op de laan en de achterliggende gebouwen. Tevens werden de heuvels mooi belicht. Echt een indrukwekkend uitzicht in het mooi Italië.

Net ten zuiden van Bagno Vigno Vignoni aan de SR2 vind je deze prachtige cipresse laan in hartje Toscane. Dit is echt één van de mooiste gebieden in Italië. Van Pienza naar San Quirico d'Orcia is een bekende route, maar deze lokatie is echt mooi. Ook Bagno Vignoni is zeker een bezoekje waard. Deze foto is tijdens zonsondergang genomen tijdens het gouden uur. Hierdoor komen de cipressen mooi tot hun recht maar ook de granen. Beetje bewolkte dag wat ik persoonlijk erg mooi vind.

Net ten zuiden van Bagno Vigno Vignoni aan de SR2 vind je deze prachtige cipresse laan in hartje Toscane. Dit is echt één van de mooiste gebieden in Italië. De zwarte stern komt elk voorjaar o.a. naar Nederland om te broeden. Ook in de Ooijpolder (Nijmegen) is een kolonie zwarte stern die trouw elk jaar daar aan het broeden zijn. In mei worden de eerste eieren gelegd en in juni komen deze uit. Ik heb uren aan de kant gezeten om dit vast te leggen. Deze foto schoot trok mijn aandacht. De jongen schieten omhoog als één van de ouders met eten aan komt zetten. Deze wordt al vliegen aangeboden en in zeer korte tijd wordt deze opgegeten. Prachtig om te zien.

Een populaire plek waar heel veel auto's stoppen om deze mooie lokatie vast te leggen. Die dag was het zonnig, bewolkt en dreigende wolken waren veelvuldig aanwezig en wat een mooie compositie maakt. De laan komt mooi naar voren uit en kasteel wordt mooi belicht.

De herfst begint te komen. La Hoëgne is een prachtig mooi gebied in de Belgische Ardennen. Mooi beboste heuvels en snel stromende beekjes. Het weer was magertjes en slechts een paar zonnestralen hebben we gezien. In deze foto is te zien dat de eerste bladeren waren gevallen en de bomen beginnen te verkleuren. Tevens had het veel geregend waardoor beekje behoorlijk stroomde. Mooi gebied om zeker weer een keer terug te keren.

Met FotoWandeling Nijmegen doe ik een competitie met de Beste foto. Deze opdracht is om beweging vast te leggen met lange sluitertijd. Hiervoor moet voorwerp scherp in beeld zijn en de achtergrond de snelheid weergeven. Met de RB19 van Max Verstappen die ik als foto in gedachten heb, heb ik een avond opname gemaakt met auto's op een mooi verlichte plek (Anac Nijmegen). Door de camera te pannen (meebewegen met de auto), krijg je fantastische mooi kleur effecten. Deze mini kwam fantastisch uit, mooi scherp en de achtergrond verlichting lijkt als vuur uit de auto te komen. Er was nog een fantastische foto ingestuurd waarbij dit de een na beste foto was.

Vitesse, zeearend Hertog. Wat een beest en wat een blik. Wanneer Vitesse thuis speelt, vliegt Hertog de zeearend altijd een rondje door het stadion. Echt indrukwekkend beest.

Wat een mooi moment was dit. Voorbereidend voor de ondergaande zon, eerst nog even de Jan van Genten pakken met ondergaande zon. In plaats van een groot objectief een groothoek op de camera. Tracken met de vogels en kwam deze mooie foto tevoorschijn. Precies in reflectie van water van de zon vliegt de Jan van Gent over bij Lange Anna (Helgoland).

Het is hoog water. De Waal, de Rijn, de Maas staan allen hoog i.v.mn. de vele regen en smeltend sneeuw. Eind 2023 staat het water op hoogste punt en is duidelijk te zien. Verschillende kades zijn al ondergelopen en water staat hoog tot aan de dijk. Ook onder de Oversteek is het vele water ook goed te zien. Deze foto gemaakt tijdens blauwe uur. De lampen van de oveersteek reflecteren mooi in de Waal.
